Catalytic Instruments GmbH & Co.KG was founded in 2013 by Dr. Hans-Joachim Schulz, Dr. Jacob Swanson and Dr. Adam Boies. The Core technology developed at the University of Minneapolis and University of Cambridge, with the goal of developing innovative technologies to accurately measure particle concentrations and improve emissions control.

The company’s first product was the Catalytic Stripper, designed to remove volatile compounds and semi-volatile particles, enabling more reliable measurements of emissions in engines and combustion processes.

After the success of the °Catalytic Stripper, the company introduced the °Catalytic Vapor Filter (CVF), which was designed to efficiently handle volatile vapors such as butanol. This technology further enhanced the accuracy of measurements, particularly in systems using CPCs (Condensation Particle Counters).

Addressing a significant pain point for researchers, who previously lacked efficient automatic devices for particle calibration, °Catalytic Instruments developed the °Silver Particle Generator. Prior to the SPG, the calibration of particle counters was challenging, prone to errors, and required manual operation. This method was revolutionized by the SPG, which automated the procedure and guaranteed accurate and consistent results by enabling researchers to produce silver particles at the touch of a button.

Lastly, the S8000 °Particle Sintering Device was introduced, enabling the thermal treatment of particles, adjusting their physical and chemical properties for various applications. These technologies are widely used in areas such as vehicle emissions control, environmental studies, and industrial particle research, establishing Catalytic Instruments as a leader in innovation.
