°Silver Particle Generator generates solid silver aerosols used for calibrating particle counters, emission studies, and air quality research an easy and effective way.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- Short warm-up time (< 15 mins)
- Wide particle size range (2 nm† – 200 nm)
- High concentrations (> 1 x 107 #/cm)
- Remote data logging (USB, LAN)
- Stable and repeatable (±1% GSD; GMD)
- One-touch presets for quick select size modes with customisable settings
- Temperature Settings: (Mode 1: 1000°C, Mode 2: 1100°C)

Working Principle
A controllable heating element is used to keep silver in a reservoir at a set temperature. Nitrogen or air, used as carrier gas, transports the evaporated silver upward the tube. As the gas rises it cools leading to homogeneous nucleation of small silver partilces. Condensation and coagulation processes lead to further growth of the small silver particles.
By adjusting the temperature and flow parameters, the resulting particle size distribution can be tuned between the smallest (~2nm) and the largest (~300 nm) particle diameters.
The GMD can be controlled between ~3 and ~70 nm.
Why to use Silver?
A stable and well-characterized aerosol source is crucial for standards and calibration processes. Particles generated with such a source should fulfill the following properties: Spherical, Solid, Insoluble, Unreactive and Stable.
Example for Calibration
To generate sintered silver particles of sizes 2 – 100 nm we recommend to use the following setup
This setup presents an easy, flexible, and stable method for generating solid, unreactive, insoluble, thermally stable, and spherical silver particles with diameters up to 100 nm.
These particles can be used for calibration of CPC or PCRF or for any other UFP application requiring a highly defined, stable aerosol source.

The SPG produces silver particles that agglomerate in the Residence Chamber and the P1000 PCRF Accessory Kit. The large agglomerates are sintered in the S8000 Particle Sintering Device and size selected in the DMA for the calibration application. The SPG’s ability to control the heater temperature in precise 1°C steps not only allows for stable production of narrow size distributions of spherical silver particles but also enables the ability to shift these distributions by tuning the temperature. The resulting silver particles cover diameters up to 100 nm at concentrations between 10³ and 10⁶cm⁻³.
